Grace & Truth for the Accidental Pharisee

March 6, 2020 |
Grace & Truth

It was almost ten years ago when I read it.

Accidental Pharisees.

The book had such a profound impact on my life that I have never been the same.

Probably because, at the time, I had never considered myself a pharisee. But that’s exactly what I was. The book spoke right to my heart.

It was a message that I needed to hear.

In Larry Osborn’s book, he describes being an accidental pharisee as judging other people because they aren’t at the same point in their spiritual life that you are.

I don’t know why that profoundly simple statement was so revolutionary, but it was like cold water in my accidental pharisee face. The wake-up call I desperately needed.

My husband says that I was a bit legalistic back then.

A little stingy with grace.

If you know me now, you should know that I’ve come a long way since then.

All of that is what came rushing back when I stumbled across Diane’s post, “Who Are The Pharisees Today?” in last week’s link-up.

It is a must-read, y’all.

And if you have room on your reading list, you might even consider picking up a copy of Larry Osborn’s book.

Are you an accidental pharisee?

I remember reading Accidental Pharisees a few years too. I also hope I’ve come a long ways from how judgmental I used to be. 🙂 Grace, Lord!
